Subject: 9785/Pension(F&P) Increase Date: Tue, 1 Sep 1992 17:02:00 -0500 ORDINANCE NO. 9785 AN ORDINANCE TO INCREASE THE PENSION BENEFITS UNDER THE FIREMEN'S AND POLICEMEN'S INSURANCE AND PENSION FUND AS PROVIDED BY ORDINANCE NO. 8688, SECTION 1 (10), NOW CODIFIED AS SECTION 13.75 OF THE CHATTANOOGA CITY CHARTER _______________________ WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 8688, Section 1 (10), now codified as Section 13.75 of the Chattanooga City Charter, provides that the Board of Commissioners of the City of Chattanooga, in its discretion, after a recommendation has been received by the Board of Directors of the Firemen's and Policemen's Insurance and Pension Fund may, by ordinance passed on three separate readings, increase such pension benefits in this section or any section of the Private Acts of 1949, Chapter 165, as amended; NOW, THEREFORE, SECTION 1: BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, That the pension benefits provided by the Firemen's and Policemen's Insurance and Pension Fund be and the same are amended for any retired employee of the department of safety who was a participant in the Firemen's and Policemen's Insurance and Pension Fund, and whose beneficiaries for any reason do not receive the $10,000.00 death benefit of Section 13.74, or the monthly widow's benefit in Section 13.76 of the City Charter as constituted on the date this ordinance becomes effective, by adding the following: 0C At the death, hereafter, of any retired employee of the department of safety, who was a participant in the Firemen's and Policemen's Insurance and Pension Fund, and whose beneficiaries for any reason do not receive the $10,000.00 death benefit in Section 13.74, or the monthly widow's benefit in Section 13.76 of the City Charter as constituted on the date this ordinance becomes effective, there shall be paid from the said Firemen's and Policemen's Insurance and Pension Fund, whichever said benefits have not been received. SECTION 2: BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, That this ordinance shall take effect two (2) weeks from and after its passage as required by law.
